This Used To Be a Funhouse

Exhibition by Sammi Carr

Opening Friday 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Born and raised in Western Australia, Sammi Carr lives and practises on Dharawal land in New South Wales. Her process prioritises open-ended exploration and experimentation across mediums, favouring bold colour, form and shape.

Her work has been shown across Australia and internationally, including Welcome To The Dinner Party (Platform Presents, Naarm/Melbourne, 2025), the Ember Collaborative Festival (Glenworth Valley, 2024), Boomer Gallery (London, 2023), and Building Glass Houses (Project Contemporary Artspace, Wollongong, 2022), alongside residencies and ongoing collaborations with music and arts communities.

This Used To Be A Funhouse gathers 7 years of Sammi Carr's artistic exploration into a single room telling a story of discovery through the expression of the light and the shade. Journal entries sit beside paintings; early sketches lead into digital work and music. Shown together they trace the evolution of Sammi, a dynamic living record of identity exploration.

Self-taught and exploratory, Sammi works in dynamic colour, bold form and unmistakable shape. Her practice bleeds expression, personal annotation, turning a sharp eye on the political, social and environmental landscapes we all move through. The funhouse of the title is a place of play and distortion.
